The Southern Cassowary, Casuarius casuarius, sometimes called Two-wattled Cassowary or Double-wattled Cassowary , is one of the weirdest birds with is brown casque, blue face and neck, red nape and two red wattles hanging down its throat. Their feets are thick and powerful, with the inner toe equipped with a lethal claw! The female is dominant and larger with a longer casque and brighter-colored bare parts. The youngs birds has plain brown plumage.
Its hard casque or helmet comprises a central cartilage core and an outer tough horn-like skin covering. Its size is possibly significant in determining social status
With it’s maximum size estimated at 85 kg (187 lb) and 190 cm (74 in), it’s the second heaviest bird on earth after the ostrich.
